A crossbody's argument is two free hands — for the badge, the coffee, the handshake — with the phone and the reader riding where they can be reached without stopping. The magnetic closure opens with one hand; the exterior zip holds what needs to stay closer than that.

The name is the maker's. Women in Love is D. H. Lawrence's 1920 novel — first issued privately in New York, for subscribers only, after its predecessor was seized and destroyed by court order under the Obscene Publications Act. Lawrence took no chances the second time.

Questions we are asked

Will a full-size tablet fit? No. An iPad Mini or a Kindle, yes; a 10-inch tablet does not. It is built for the evening, not the deposition.

Does the strap adjust short enough to wear on the shoulder? Yes — it runs from shoulder length to crossbody.

Is the magnetic closure secure on a crowded floor? It holds the flap; the exterior zip pocket is where the phone and cards go when the room is crowded.

Care. Vegetable-tanned Vachetta darkens with handling and sun; that is the leather working, not wearing out. Wipe dust with a dry cloth, keep it away from radiators, and condition lightly once a year with a colourless leather cream. Rain marks fade as the surrounding leather catches up.
