Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we are asked most, answered plainly. If yours is not here, write to james@barristerandbespoke.com and we will answer within one business day.

Ordering and shipping

When does the shop open? Fall 2026. Until then you can browse and join the Chambers, our mailing list; we write when the doors open and when a Field Guide is published, and for nothing else.

Where do you ship? Within the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the territories and military addresses. We do not ship internationally at this time. Full terms are in the Shipping Policy.

Is shipping free? Standard shipping within the contiguous United States is free on orders with a merchandise subtotal of $150 or more. Below that, shipping is charged at checkout. See the Shipping Policy.

Why did my order arrive in two parcels? Products ship from more than one location. You are never charged shipping twice for one order, and the return window runs from the last parcel.

Returns and warranty

What is the return window? Thirty days from delivery, unused, in original packaging. Inked fountain pens, fuelled lighters and opened consumables are final sale. See the Returns & Exchanges Policy.

What warranty do I get? House pieces: our Five-Year Limited Warranty. Curated pieces: the maker's own warranty, plus our Thirty-Day Assurance. See the Warranty Policy.

The products

Do you monogram or engrave? No. Nothing we sell is personalized, house or curated. The ampersand seal and the makers' own marks are the only marking you will find.

What is the difference between the House Collection, the Curated Collection and Essentials? House pieces are designed to our specification and made for us alone. Curated pieces — Korchmar, Time Resistance, Pelikan, Esterbrook, S.T. Dupont, Xikar, Daniel Marshall, Gallery Leather — are chosen for the maker's own standing. Essentials are stocked because the ritual needs one and this one does the job. Every product page says which it is.

Where is the house leather made, and what is it? Kolkata, India, in full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather with solid brass hardware. We state the country of manufacture on every house piece.

Why do the house pieces show placeholder photographs? Because they are being made. Final photography, measured dimensions and weights are published as the first production pieces arrive.

Do lighters ship with fuel? No. Every butane lighter ships unfueled, as air transport rules require. A new lighter that will not light needs butane.

Do you sell cigars? No — cutters, lighters, ashtrays and humidors only.

Firms

Can a firm order in quantity? Yes. Gifts for new partners and new admits, onboarding sets and commissioned quantities are scoped and quoted privately; see For Firms.
