The structure earns its keep the same way it does on a briefcase: a bag that holds its shape opens flat, so you find things instead of excavating them. The center divider's zip pocket is where the phone and keys live; the front slip pockets take whatever needs to come out at a counter. Full-grain Vachetta darkens and takes a patina with use — this is a bag that looks better in year three than in week one.

The name is the maker's. Camilla is Frances Burney's 1796 novel, published by subscription — and among the subscribers whose names were printed at the front of the first edition was one "Miss J. Austen, Steventon." It was the first time Jane Austen's name ever appeared in print.
