The trolley strap gives the game away: this bag was built for the practice that boards. Five liters is deliberate — enough for the machine and the day, small enough that it never becomes the second suitcase.

The name is the maker's, and it earns its footnote. Orlando is Virginia Woolf's 1928 novel, whose hero lives three centuries — the first as a man, the rest as a woman — and spends the better part of one of them in litigation over whether a woman may hold her own property. This bag is one design, carried by anyone. The maker could not have chosen better.

Questions we are asked

Will a 14-inch laptop fit? No. The compartment is cut for machines up to 13 inches; a 14-inch body will not close the flap. For 15 inches and up, see the Vendetta attaché.

Is there room for a legal pad? A4 and legal-size folders fit flat in the main compartment beside the laptop; the pad goes in the folder, not loose.

How does it sit on a rolling case? The rear strap slips over the extended handle and the bag rides upright, which is the point of the strap.

Care. Vegetable-tanned Vachetta darkens with handling and sun; that is the leather working, not wearing out. Wipe dust with a dry cloth, keep it away from radiators, and condition lightly once a year with a colourless leather cream. Rain marks fade as the surrounding leather catches up.
