The M1000 nib has a visible give under pressure that broadens the line on the downstroke — a signature written with it looks written, not printed. That softness is also why it is a desk pen: it rewards a relaxed hand and a sheet of good paper, and it is wasted on a form filled in standing up.

Questions we are asked

M800 or M1000? Weight and nib. The M800 is the working pen most lawyers should buy; the M1000 is a size larger, a shade softer, and belongs on a desk. If you are unsure, buy the M800 — nobody regrets it.

Which ink? Any bottled fountain-pen ink; a piston filler does not take cartridges. For documents that must last, a permanent black such as an iron-gall or pigment ink; for daily notes, an ordinary dye ink is easier on the pen.

How is it cleaned? Draw and expel clean water through the piston until it runs clear, every few fills or whenever the ink colour changes. Ten minutes at a sink, no tools.

Is it a partnership gift? It is the one we point to — a single object, unmistakably a Pelikan to anyone who knows, and invisible to anyone who does not.

Is the Pelikan warranty valid in the United States? Yes. Pelikan's three-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects has no geographical restrictions, and it covers the Souverän and Classic series. A defect is repaired, or the pen replaced, at Pelikan's choice. Claims go through us as the retailer, or to Pelikan directly with proof of purchase, and the details are in our Warranty Policy.
