Pelikan Souverän K805 Ballpoint — Stresemann

The Pelikan Souverän K805 Stresemann is the ballpoint for the lawyer who owns nothing gold — the Souverän "L" size in anthracite-striped, diamond-cut cellulose acetate with palladium-plated trim, twist-action, the match to the M805 fountain pen. The name is Gustav Stresemann's, the German Foreign Minister of the 1920s, whose pinstriped suits the finish is named for. Under a steel watch, it is the one that matches.

The stripes are cut from the same acetate Pelikan uses for the fountain pens — individually striped, diamond-cut and polished to a final luster by hand — so the ballpoint carries the pinstripe rather than a print of it, and the palladium trim keeps the pen to one metal. Across a conference table beside a steel watch and a white-metal cufflink, gold trim is the one note that clashes. This is the pen that doesn't.

Questions we are asked

Where does the name come from? Gustav Stresemann, German Foreign Minister in the 1920s, and the pinstriped suits he wore. Pelikan gives the name to the anthracite-striped finish.

K805 or K800? Trim and body. The K805 wears palladium over anthracite stripes; the K800 wears gold over black resin. Size and mechanism are the same. Choose by the metal you already wear.

Does it write on carbonless forms? Yes; it is a ballpoint, and the copy is made by pressure.

Is there a fountain pen to match? The Souverän M805 Stresemann — same stripes, same palladium, with a rhodium-plated 18-karat nib.

Is the Pelikan warranty valid in the United States? Yes. Pelikan's three-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects has no geographical restrictions, and it covers the Souverän and Classic series.
