Pelikan Souverän K400 Ballpoint — Black-Green
The Pelikan Souverän K400 in Black-Green is the ballpoint for the lawyer who keeps one pen and wants it to be a good one — the Souverän 400 size as a push-button ballpoint, in the same individually striped, diamond-cut cellulose acetate as the M400 fountain pen, polished to a final luster by hand, with 24-karat gold-plated trim. It is for the carbonless form, the notary's book and the legal pad braced on a knee, where a fountain pen has no business. One press and it writes.
The striped acetate is the point: it is the fountain pen's material, cut and finished the same way, on a pen that will spend its life being clicked. The mechanism is a push button — nothing to unscrew, no cap to leave on a conference table — and the pen arrives fitted with Pelikan's high-capacity refill in Medium, black, so it writes out of the box.

Questions we are asked
Does it write on carbonless forms? Yes. A ballpoint copies through a multi-part form because it presses; a rollerball or a fountain pen wets the top sheet and stops there.
Which refill does it take? Pelikan's high-capacity ballpoint refill. One, in Medium black, is fitted when the pen arrives.
K400 or K800? Size and mechanism. The K400 is the 400 size with a push button; the K800 is the larger 800 with a twist action. If your fountain pen is the M400, this is its match; if it is the M800, the K800 is.
Is it a gift for a new associate? It is the associate's own pen rather than the firm's gift to a class of them. For the pen you hand across the desk, see the Estie below.
Is the Pelikan warranty valid in the United States? Yes. Pelikan's three-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects has no geographical restrictions, and it covers the Souverän and Classic series. A defect is repaired, or the pen replaced, at Pelikan's choice. Claims go through us as the retailer, or to Pelikan directly with proof of purchase, and the details are in our Warranty Policy.
Fountain, rollerball, or ballpoint — which one signs? Read Fountain, Rollerball, or Ballpoint?
Built for the pen you keep, not the one you hand across the desk — for that, the Estie Ballpoint in Ebony does the job at a lower price. The K400 is the ballpoint to the Souverän M400, in the same black-green acetate and gold. For the larger twist-action Souverän, see the Souverän K800.

Barrister & Bespoke Curated Collection — hand-selected from Pelikan, the Hannover house that has built piston-fill fountain pens since 1929, for its craftsmanship and fit within our world. Curated pieces carry their maker's own identity rather than ours; our house collection, designed and branded exclusively for Barrister & Bespoke, is marked separately throughout the shop.
Warranty. This Product carries Pelikan's three-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and Barrister & Bespoke's own Thirty-Day Assurance for the first thirty days after delivery. Full terms, including how to make a claim, are stated in our Warranty Policy.
