The Professional Leather Planner is Gallery Leather's week-at-a-glance book in full-grain leather — two pages to the week, the day ruled in half-hour lines from seven in the morning to seven at night, with a monthly section behind it for the view from altitude. It is the planner for a calendar that is run in hours, which is to say a lawyer's.

The week is the unit. Open the book and Monday through Sunday run down two facing pages in columns, each column ruled off in half-hours from 7 to 7. A 9:30 deposition takes a line. A hearing that runs from 2 until it is over takes several, and you can see at a glance what it has pushed. The extra space at the head of each day is for the thing that starts before seven — the flight, the early call with the coast — and the monthly pages behind the weekly section carry the same year from July 2026 through June 2028, so trial dates set eighteen months out have somewhere to go.

Half-hours matter more than they sound. Many planners rule the day in hours or not at all, and a practice does not run in hours. It runs in the fifteen minutes before the client arrives and the twenty after opposing counsel leaves. Half-hour lines are the closest a printed page gets to the way the day is actually cut, and the vertical format puts the whole week's shape in front of you without turning a page.

The cover is full-grain leather — Monhegan, a soft, slightly textured finish that shows the variation of the hide, or Tremont, a goat-grain finish that is clearly visible and consistent from cover to cover. Six colors, because this book ships from the maker rather than from our shelf, and we are not limited to the black we stock in the journals. Black is the one that goes unremarked in any room. Cocoa and Saddle are the browns. Emerald, Atlantic and Garnet are for the lawyer who has decided the planner is allowed to be noticed.

Dated, not undated. A dated planner is the only kind that is a record — it proves where the day went, in sequence, in your hand, in a book that cannot be quietly reordered. That is worth more in this profession than in most. Contemporaneous entries refresh a recollection years later, document who was where and when, and answer a fee dispute. Weekly or monthly — which one? Ask how your day is cut. If it is cut in appointments — depositions, hearings, client meetings, calls at set times — the weekly book with its half-hour lines is the one, and this is it. If the calendar is a few large dates a month and the hours live elsewhere, the Large Monthly is the better book and the lighter one. Choose based on how many things happen at a fixed time in an ordinary week, not on which layout looks tidier, and you'll rarely choose wrong.

What are the date ranges, exactly? The weekly section runs January through December 2027. The monthly section runs July 2026 through June 2028 — two full years across the 2027 book, so a date set well past December has a page.

How does it ship? Directly from Gallery Leather's bindery in Trenton, Maine, in a gift box, under our name — nothing in the box carries anyone else's pricing or paperwork. That is how we can offer six colors instead of one. Unpersonalized planners typically leave the bindery within a few business days; personalized ones usually within eight, and ten at the outside.

How does personalization work? Choose it when you order — initials, one line, or two — and enter the text on this page. The maker foil-stamps it in the lower right corner of the cover in gold, silver or white, or blind-debosses it with no foil at all. Type is set in all capitals or upper-and-lower, and the maker sizes the lettering to the space, so shorter is better. Personalized planners are made to your order and cannot be returned or exchanged unless the personalization error is the maker's. Personalization adds time, because the book is stamped after you order it rather than pulled off a shelf. Figure eight business days at the bindery, ten at the outside; an unpersonalized planner leaves in a few. The wait is the work.

Does it lie flat when open? The maker builds the interior on a lay-flat design with sewn signatures. Expect a short break-in — open the book fully and bend the cover back a few times — before it sits open on its own.

Will mine look like the photograph? Close, but not identical. Monhegan and Tremont are full-grain finishes that show the natural variation of the hide, so the grain and the way it takes the light differ from cover to cover. The photograph is one book, not a template.

Where is it made? Assembled at Gallery Leather's facility in Trenton, Maine. The leather comes from the Valencia region of Spain and the book block from a supplier in Korea. Gallery Leather does not claim "Made in the USA" without the qualification the law requires of it, and neither do we.

What does the guarantee cover? Construction, at any time. In Gallery Leather's own words, if for any reason you are dissatisfied with the construction of one of its products, it will repair or replace it, without question, free of charge.
