The Classic M200 is the other way into Pelikan — the first piston filler in the range, drawing ink straight from the bottle with no cartridge involved, in a compact body finished in individually marbled resin. Each pen's pattern is its own; no two are exactly alike. An ink window lets you watch the reserve as you write.

The M200 and the P205 are a pair, not a ladder. They cost the same and take the same two nib widths — Fine for the redline and the deposition note taken at speed, Medium for the broader, wetter line a signature wants. Pelikan makes these bodies in other widths; we stock Fine and Medium because those are the two a working lawyer reaches for. What separates the two pens is how they fill and how they are finished: the M200 fills by piston and wears gold, the P205 takes a cartridge and wears silver. Choose on that, not on price.

We stock the three finishes we would carry ourselves rather than the full Pelikan range: Green-Marbled and Red Marbled in both widths, Brown-Marbled in Medium. Red Marbled is a Pelikan Special Edition — diamond-ground surfaces over the marbled red resin, made alongside the standard assortment rather than within it — at the same price as the others.

Questions we are asked

M200 or P205? Fill and finish, not price. The M200 fills by piston and wears gold; the P205 takes a cartridge and wears silver. Same two widths, same price. If the bottle is part of the appeal, the M200; if you would rather never think about ink, the P205.

Fine or Medium? Fine for the redline and the note taken at speed; Medium for the wetter line a signature wants. Fine is stocked in Green-Marbled and Red Marbled; Brown-Marbled comes in Medium. The Field Guide below is the five-minute answer.

Which ink, and how is it cleaned? Any bottled fountain-pen ink; a piston filler takes no cartridge. To clean it, draw and expel water through the piston until it runs clear, and the ink window lets you see when it does.

Will two look the same? No. The marbled resin is individually patterned, so each pen's figure is its own, and the pen in the photograph is not the pen in the box.

Is the Pelikan warranty valid in the United States? Yes. Pelikan's three-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects has no geographical restrictions, and it covers the Souverän and Classic series. A defect is repaired, or the pen replaced, at Pelikan's choice. Claims go through us as the retailer, or to Pelikan directly with proof of purchase, and the details are in our Warranty Policy.

Built for the lawyer who wants the bottle to be part of it. If you would rather swap a cartridge and never think about ink again, take the P205 instead. When the pen becomes the one you write with all day, the Souverän M800 is the gold-nibbed step up from either.
