Litigator Wheeled Catalog Case — Black

The Litigator is a wheeled leather catalog case for the trial lawyer carrying a case that has outgrown a briefcase — and carrying it back out at the end of the day, because most courthouses won't let you leave it in the courtroom overnight.

Trial volume comes less from the size of the file than from redundancy: five color copies of the demonstratives, three copies of the cases you expect to argue, tabbed exhibit binders in a color the other side isn't using — plus the laptop, the tablet, and the adapters, because you won't know which format the judge wants until you have the judge.

It's sized to a standing file rather than a laptop, which is why it runs 16 inches tall. Two full-length expanding partitions hold binders upright and separated, so the document you need is retrievable in the pause after a question rather than four minutes later. The organizer beneath the lid takes the cables that have to come out at security anyway. A 17-inch laptop rides alongside all of it, not instead of it.

Extended, the telescoping handle makes it a rolling case. Retracted, it hand-carries on a steel-core leather handle for the crowded aisle. Parked with the handle up, it braces a stack of banker's boxes set on the lid — the hand truck nobody issued you.

A catalog case is visible equipment. It doesn't argue anything. But arriving with the whole file, in one trip, on the fourth morning as readily as the first, settles a question before anyone has spoken.

Will a standing file fit upright? Yes, and that is why the case runs 16 inches tall rather than being sized to a laptop. Tabbed exhibit binders stand rather than lie, so the one you need comes up without unstacking the three above it.

Can it be hand-carried, or is it wheels only? Both. Retract the telescoping handle and it hand-carries on a steel-core leather handle, which is what you want in a crowded aisle or up a short flight of courthouse steps.

Can I stack anything on it? Yes. Parked with the handle up, it braces a stack of banker's boxes set on the lid — the hand truck nobody issued you.

Does it lock, and does it take a laptop? Yes to both. Three-dial combination locks, one per latch, and a sleeve for a laptop up to 17 inches alongside the file rather than instead of it.
